At the stroke of midnight on April 5th 1933, American beer drinkers were no longer breaking the law when they cracked open a cold one with the boys.
New Beer's Eve is an unofficial holiday celebrated in the United States. It is the night preceding the day the sale of beer became legal again following thirteen long years of prohibition.
Repeal came in the form of the Beer-Wine Revenue Act, signed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It legalized and taxed beverages containing no more than 3.2 percent alcohol. Millions of Americans celebrated the return of legal beer. Prohibition was officially repealed by the 21st Amendment in December 1933.
Upon signing the Act Roosevelt made his famous remark,
