QG’s Annual Baltimore Marathon Relay by the #meninsuits
In 2012, I had reached my final straw after the Baltimore Marathon. Staff and clients were ringing the phones off the hook as they were stuck in traffic with all of the road closures. As frustration settled in, the saying, “If you can’t beat them, join them” and a brilliant thought came to me simultaneously. Next year, I would do the marathon in a suit and dress shoes for the publicity to make up for day’s lost business. I went home excited to tell my wife the good news, and of course she put a wet blanket on it reminding me of my recently diagnosed herniated disk. However, I would not let that stop me. I saw a bigger picture needing to be addressed. I would make a stand against “casual Friday” becoming “casual everyday” and against the this craze of athleisure creeping into our culture. I would make this point at Baltimore’s largest participated athletic event.
Now I eventually came to my senses. Not that I wouldn’t run in a suit and dress shoes, but that I would convince three others to do the same and run the relay instead. I clearly thought more of my ability to convince others to run in suits more then my ability to run the full marathon (I have never run over 10 miles even in running gear).
Center for Urban Families, located in Baltimore, provides training and personal development for vulnerable urban families. Career Gear is their national partner, focuses on providing professional clothing to enable men and women to secure better employment opportunities. CFUF is in significant need of men’s and women’s suiting, dress shirts, dress shoes and accessories. QG is offering our clients and friends a convenient drop off till November 1st. CFUF also offers a myriad of programs that need support. We would like you to also consider sponsoring our relay by making a donation directly here.
For the race, several of our brands will be helping us look dapper and mitigate some of the pain we will experience during the race.
Allen Edmonds recently launched the Road Warriors featuring a lightweight foam rubber EVA outsole and four layers of shock absorbing cushioning. These shoes let you run a business while experiencing all the comforts of athletic shoe technology.
Peter Millar E4 Sportshirts are made of the same fabric as there golf shirts so even though it looks like a dress shirt, it has a four way stretch and is moisture wicking.
Finally QG is introducing our first tie line which we will be sporting along with Hook & Albert lapel flowers and socks. Both accessories will not provide any tangible benefit to our run and in fact may hold us back, but that is how dedicated we are to looking good while we are racing.
If you are running in the marathon and you see us, please either take a picture of us or with us and post it with the hashtags, #meninsuits #baltimorerunningfestival and #cfuf. Also be on the look out for our featured interview with Megan Pringle of WBAL. Details coming soon.
